NuWave Oven Review

Dear Friend,

I admit I’m a sucker when it comes to new technology – especially if it claims to make your life easier, more efficient and saves you time and money…

…So when I heard about the NuWave oven, I had to give it a try.

The infomercial for the NuWave oven says it’s a portable, countertop cooking device designed to be a faster and more energy efficient way to cook food than a standard oven.

The idea is that it’s supposed to replace your traditional oven for daily cooking. Yeah Right.

That’s a bold intention for such a compact little cooker, but guess what?

I was pleasantly surprised!

Here’s what got me: The NuWave oven is meant to be 85% more energy efficient and can cook food up to 50% faster than a traditional oven, even if it’s from frozen!

Now I have to admit I was VERY sceptical hearing this since my regular oven can’t do that…

So I thought there’s only one way to settle this and that’s to test it out. So here it goes…

How Does The NuWave Oven Work?

The NuWave oven looks like what can only be described as an upside down goldfish bowl with a top and base. It’s got a non-stick base unit and grill attachment that you place your food on even if it’s rock-solid frozen!


The NuWave oven uses something called ‘triple combo’ cooking power to cook food – a fancy name I know, but boy does it cook food FAST!

It basically means it uses three different cooking methods in one – convection, conduction and infra-red – a LOT to pack into a such a portable unit.

Convection in the NuWave oven is similar to a fan oven by circulating heat around food, cooking it evenly throughout. Sounds impressive, but there’s more…

The NuWave oven also uses conduction which is a direct heat source straight to the top of the food’s surface, helping cook food on the outside, giving a lovely golden brown finish

In fact, my mouth is watering already!

And if that wasn’t enough, the NuWave oven uses infra-red technology – a deep form of heat which cooks food right to the core so even food cooked from frozen will be thoroughly cooked from the inside in minutes!!

And you know what that means?

Absolutely no danger of food poisoning or contamination!

Now I’m beginning to understand why the NuWave oven is great for cooking – because no traditional oven can do that!

What I love about the NuWave oven is that it cooks food rapidly, and keeps it moist on the inside and crispy on the outside.

Yes! But, Does The NuWave Oven Do What It Claims To Do?

On Saturday, I made sticky ribs for the kids. Now get this – the ribs were frozen and needed to marinade… and everyone knows you can’t marinade frozen meat!

Sceptical, I spread the frozen ribs with the marinade and cooked it in the NuWave oven for just under 30 minutes…Ok I stopped partway through to turn the ribs over and coat with more marinade, and I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised.

I didn’t think my little experiment would work as you normally have to marinade meat a good few hours beforehand…

…but to my surprise and my kids delight, the ribs turned out perfect! They were soft, tender, VERY tasty and REALLY juicy!

They certainly weren’t dry and tasteless like I thought they’d be, but far from it! To think that just half an hour earlier the ribs were hiding in my freezer, I have to say, I’m impressed.

Now this got me totally excited – I wanted to test how fast the NuWave oven could cook compared to a traditional oven…

So I made chicken drumsticks and placed half in the NuWave oven and the other half in my traditional oven.

Here’s the really cool thing: my regular oven was done in just under an hour – 55 minutes to be exact…

But the NuWave oven took less than 30 minutes to cook – that’s almost twice as fast as my usual oven.

And because I’m cooking for a smaller period of time, it makes sense that I’m using far less energy too. Put it this way, every single thing in the NuWave oven came out quickly, easily and was cooked beautifully.

So in a nutshell, here’s what I loved about the NuWave oven:

  • Cooks food quickly from frozen – no need to worry about it marinating or defrosting
  • Energy efficient and uses 85% less energy than standard ovens
  • Cooks food up to 50% faster
  • Food cooks evenly while remaining juicy – never dry
  • You can take the NuWave oven literally anywhere as long as you can plug it in – including camper vans

Even though I give the NuWave oven a BIG thumbs up, there were a few things that needed considering…

- The dome is a pain to wash in my sink because it’s pretty big. It meant I was splashing water everywhere – although if you got a dishwasher, it’s not a big deal

- I did notice that the heating element had grease splashes on it – and you can’t actually wash that bit, so that was a bit icky for my liking

- I’ve a small kitchen and need my counter space for food prep – so the NuWave oven took a little more space than I wanted it to – but I can live with that

Final Thoughts About The NuWave Oven

Overall, I was pretty impressed by the NuWave oven and would give it 9 out of 10 – it did everything it said it would and more, and I’ve been using it almost every day.


If you’re time pushed like I am and want food quickly in a flash, then I strongly recommend you get the NuWave oven and make your life simple and easy…In fact, I wouldn’t be without it!
